Sealers are used to seal the grains of the wood, add protection while preventing tannin bleed and side bonding. It also provides a base layer for finishes to adhere to, which will increase the lifespan of your hardwood floors. Sealers come in water based and alcohol based. The water-based versions provide a wide range of colors.
Polyurethane is used to coat surfaces, protect them from scratches and help them to resist water damage. There are a variety of sheens which include matte, satin, semi-gloss and gloss. Polyurethane comes in both water-based and oil-based formulas and each has its advantages and disadvantages. Water-base is lower voc, it has faster dry/cure times, and it comes in ambering and clear tones. Oil-based has a deep ambering tone that can give a floor a classic feel. Traditionally oil-based is the stronger of the two but water-base polyurethane has commercial-based products that can be considered superior to oil.
Bona Waterborne Sealers are made to penetrate, seal, and set the overall tone of the hardwood floor. They don’t just add coloration, they also make Bona Finishes perform even better – adding build and depth and improving adhesion and overall durability.
